Welcome to ILLiad, Watson Library's system for delivering book chapters and articles while we are closed for renovations (November 2025-Spring 2026). This service is for registered Watson Library researchers not employed by The Metropolitan Museum of Art or affiliated with an institution that provides interlibrary loan service.
*Note: If you are a Met staff member or volunteer, please use Watson Library's regular ILL service here.
Required Accounts
- Services are provided to registered Watson Library researchers. New users may self-register by completing the online form here.
- All requests must be made through ILLiad, Watson Library’s document delivery system. Registered Watson library users must also register for ILLiad by completing the online form here.
- Once both accounts have been verified, you will receive an email from watson.library@metmuseum.org with your ILLiad username and password, after which you may begin placing requests.
Service Details
- This service applies to book chapters and articles scanned from our physical collections or downloaded from our electronic collections.
- We will process a maximum of ten requests per calendar week per researcher. This is subject to change.
- Requests may take up to one week to be fulfilled.
- Generally, we will provide limited portions of a work; typically, two articles from a single journal issue, two chapters of a book, etc., not to exceed 10% of the publication.
- If you are requesting multiple chapters from a single book, or multiple articles from a single journal volume, each chapter/article must be submitted as a separate request.
- When your request is ready, you will receive an email from Watson Library Scanning Service with instructions on how to download it.
Exceptions
- Researchers affiliated with an academic institution as students or faculty must use the interlibrary loan service offered by their institution.
- Microfilm, select rare books, select electronic resources, and already checked-out items are not available for this service.
We are committed to serving our international community of researchers. Depending on demand, we may adjust the maximum number of requests per week or introduce other quotas. If you have questions about this service, please email watson.library@metmuseum.org.
